Il divino Boemo
In his short story Il divino Boemo (The Divine Bohemian), Jakub Arbes paid homage to Josef Mysliveček, a Czech composer from the late Baroque period who won his musical laurels in Italy, the cradle of European opera.
The author focuses on the last period of Mysliveček's life and did not avoid many factual inaccuracies, starting with the title itself – the real Mysliveček was more soberly nicknamed "il Boemo" in Italy, meaning just "The Bohemian". The short story became the basis for the libretto of Stanislav Suda's opera and one of the sources for the screenplay of the 2022 film Il Boemo.
