How to cross the river
This book represents several years of contemplation about society, nature, and ourselves. The first part concerns our current situation, teetering on the edge between anger and compassion, between destruction and creation. We are psychologically ill-prepared for change, which is why it is necessary to build some form of active defence. However, it then becomes clear that mere self-defence is not enough, as it is also necessary to be creative. The author illustrates three different kinds of creativity using the examples of three artists, whose paths lead through a thorough knowledge of their craft, art history, and listening to music; through the ability to be an extended arm of natural forces; or even by springing from a crack into another space. The final part of the book is dedicated to a journey with a Native American shaman to the first post-American city, Detroit, and to civilisations that dissolve and recrystallise in a different form. In Detroit, we witnessed the end of one civilisation, and it wasn't a bad thing.
