How to cook bats

Audiobook How to Cook Bats, author Marie Rejfová, read by Zdeňka Žádníková. Directed by Jakub Tabery. Josefína Divíšková #8 THE ECCENTRIC TEACHER JOSEFÍNA DIVÍŠKOVÁ DOESN'T GET A BREAK FROM SOLVING CRIMES, EVEN ON HOLIDAY IN KARLOVY VARY. Josefína and Inspector Tvrdík are enjoying a well-deserved holiday in Karlovy Vary. However, the spa town idyll comes to an abrupt end with the arrival of Tvrdík's fifteen-year-old daughter, Ludmila, and his indestructible Aunt Václava. What's more, dead animals start appearing in the luxury hotel, the uncompromising regional health officer Julius Šlem rushes in, and the ensuing chaos culminates in the death of the operations manager, Iveta Lehká. The town is celebrating Walpurgis Night and there is no shortage of suspects. Was it the hotel manager, Mr Brousil, the victim's jealous husband, one of the employees, or the intolerant grammar school teacher, Mr Rudlík? And how do Jirka Pazderka and his grandmother fit into all this? Josefína isn't just solving the tricky murder of the hotel operations manager; she is also forced to face the challenges set for her by Tvrdík's family. Will she keep her sanity and her relationship with the inspector despite it all? And will her grandmother's wisdom help her survive all the escapades and difficult situations? MARIE REJFOVÁ Originally from Prague, she grew up in Žatec and studied at the Faculty of Humanities in Pilsen. She now lives in Varnsdorf, where she works as a nursery school teacher. She has been writing fiction since she was young. After two fantasy novels for young adults, she focused on a series of humorous detective stories featuring the eccentric teacher Josefína Divíšková, in which she has fully utilised her talent for observing and describing relationships between ordinary people with a good dose of humour, while skilfully conveying the atmosphere of a contemporary small town. She is also the author of a collection of brilliant arabesques, Smíchov Stories, which are an acknowledged tribute to Jan Neruda and Jakub Arbes. ZDEŇKA ŽÁDNÍKOVÁ Born in Ústí nad Orlicí, she graduated from a grammar school in Hradec Králové and then from the Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre at DAMU, majoring in acting. At the end of her studies, she and her entire class moved to the Dejvice Theatre in Prague, where she still performs today (e.g., in the productions of The Resurrection, Theremin, The Winter's Tale). She occasionally appears on television and in films: The Pharmacist's Daughter, the series Family Ties / Very Fragile Relationships, Long Live the Knights!, Fourteens, and television fairy tales. She is the author of the fairy-tale book and CD "In the Sign of the Butterfly" and a book of poetry "Playing the Angel" /MF 2010/, and she also hosts and writes scripts for social events for both Czech and international companies. In 2007, she founded the Zdeňka Žádníková Endowment Fund, which improves the environment in healthcare and social facilities: www.nfzz.cz. She plays the transverse flute and is a student of Magdalena Bílková Tůmová, a laureate of the Prague Spring International Music Festival.
