House by the canal

The next case of the detective duo Tommy and Little Ribbon

Christie published her novel The Canal House in 1968 at an advanced age, and both of her characters, who have raised three children and are slowly retiring after their last wartime adventure in N or M, have aged.
She wrote a dedication at the head of the book: "... many readers at home and abroad who write to me and ask questions: 'What happened to Tommy and Dandelion? What are they doing now? "Well, what would they do, the answer is, they are undoubtedly on the trail of a crime. At first, however, there are no signs of this, Tommy and Pentlicka live the unexciting life of similar couples in advanced middle age. It is not until the visit of the old Aunt Ada to the Sunny Hills Guesthouse that a new case begins to unfold, including a murder. The key to the solution is a mysterious image of a pink house, which Pentlička is convinced she has actually seen somewhere before. But where?
Shortly after its publication, the novel was described with true British irony by the critic Francis Iles: "It's a thriller, not a whodunit, and needless to say, brilliant; but anyone can write a thriller today, while only one person in this world can write a true Agatha Christie."

Agatha Christie

(* 15 September 1890 - †12. January 1976) The British writer Agatha Christie belongs - and rightly so - to the legends of detective fiction. Her biography has been described and depicted in a number of books (as well as her own autobiography from 1977), and fateful moments from her life have become the subject of a film. The author's extensive bibliography - almost 300 works including theatre and radio plays, romantic prose, a collection of poetry or a collection of poems and short stories for children - is mapped in several encyclopedias (including, among others, lists and characterizations of characters or film, television and theatre adaptations), The secrets of her work are most recently revealed in detail in The Secret Notebooks of Agatha Christie published in 2009 (Czech 2010) and The Thoughtful Murders of Agatha Christie (Czech 2012), two books from the pen of John Curran, who studied in detail 73 volumes of the author's handwritten notes. All of Agatha Christie's detective novels have been published again and again all over the world, and their intelligent, meticulously crafted and, above all, thrilling stories still appeal to millions of readers today.
