Holidays with Julia

"I wonder what you're going to do now, fiancé," Julie said devilishly. The inherited niece Julie, in a nutshell the tragedy of Mr Boucek's life, is studying at a boarding school in Prague, but spends her two-month summer holidays - apart from Sundays - at her uncle's villa in Doušovice. Peaceful and free (at least until then), Mr Boucek has his own ideas of what a young girl should look like and how she should behave, but Julie doesn't live up to either. His niece is useful in only one way - she can freeze the heat of the most impatient girls with unerring certainty, even causing them to run away openly. But after Mr. Boucek, quite voluntarily, clears the field before Julie's birthday party full of Alis and Milans one beautiful summer day, his niece has an extra problem - her uncle, to her amusement and outrage, is coming home engaged... Julie, with the help of her dazzling accomplice, devises a plan to resolve the whole delicate situation (not very elegantly, according to Mr. Boucek) and make something out of it. You'll be watching! The comedy novel by the author of the popular prose novels Eva tropí hlouposti or Taková normální rodininka is brimming with situational humour and well-punctuated dialogues. Fan Vavřincová herself liked Holidays with Julia the best of her stories. "It seemed to me that I was seeing a classic film for memoirs: ) and maybe that's why I had so much fun with it..." - from reader feedback on Databazeknih.cz "A beautifully, lightly and wittily written book. I recommend it not only for summer, but especially for rainy and foggy autumn days." - from reader feedback on Databazeknih.cz "I see you, Ju-ju," said Alik. Romeo, Right, if memory serves, he said something about the moonlight, but a different time, different morals. Besides, it was morning. As for Julie, Alice's greeting sounded like music to her ears. "Come in, Alice," said Julie, opening the gate. "Uncle's in trouble and needs your advice." "Always at your service, Ju-ju," said Alice gallantly. "Hope the old man isn't involved in alimony?" - excerpt from the book
