Health Literacy
This monograph focuses on health literacy in the context of nursing. The importance of health literacy is growing, bringing the need to support it to the forefront.
Health literacy is a topic that has been given relatively little space in our book market. The main author and co-authors of this publication are working on a KEGA project focused on implementing elements of health literacy support for the adult population into nursing education. One of the outputs of this project is the monograph presented here.
The publication provides a characterisation of health literacy, highlighting its importance, model, dimensions, and determinants. It also deals with tools for assessing health literacy and the specific aspects of this type of literacy in various target groups.
In the context of the nurse's position in supporting health literacy, educational activities, communication, personal example, and the influence of the environment are elaborated upon, as is the use of information and communication technologies in supporting health literacy. The chapter also includes health literacy as a part of nursing education.
The theoretical starting points are supplemented by a chapter presenting the results of research focused on the level of health literacy in patients with arterial hypertension.
This highly specialised publication is intended for nursing students at bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels, as well as for nurses in practice and experts from other professions who deal with the issue of health literacy among the general public.
