European Space Opera Series, The Meme War Cycle, Book One
The near future – humanity is colonising the Solar System but has not yet travelled to the stars. Developed countries maintain stable and prosperous economies, and a non-profit, First Memist movement promoting ecology and disarmament is spreading. Its seemingly peaceful activities are fracturing the establishment and pushing the world closer to a cosmic war.
Open warfare will not begin for another three and a half years, but secret agents from all sides are already establishing their positions and gathering intelligence. They operate in the grey zone, an environment where laws are disregarded and civilians are not spared.
Czech-Swiss national Avien Helm is about to celebrate his twenty-first birthday, but he gets caught up in a liquidation operation for which the First Memists are suspected. While he is recovering in hospital from the aftermath of the attack, his family's enemies strip him of all his possessions.
During his private investigation to find the culprits, he works for a number of groups. He becomes a police officer, a smuggler for an Islamic clan, a pilot on Mars, and a soldier in the world's most dangerous unit. He uncovers not only the identity of the murderers but also the secrets of a worldwide conflict he names the Meme War. As a combat pilot, he takes part in the battle of Saturn, which will determine the future course of Earth's development.
