God is from Brno
The life story of a Brno bard, friend of Arnošt Goldflam, Jan Novák, Franta Kocourek and Rudy Kovanda, a television director, creator of glass objects, painter, and outstanding sportsman, whose family includes communists, Wehrmacht soldiers, Jews, legionnaires, and freemasons. A leading representative of the Brno bohemia, who according to Fuksa preferred to drink lemonade rather than beer, he recounts his life like Chekhov and Fellini, telling rich and risqué stories straight out of Bohumil Hrabal's 'Dancing Lessons for the Advanced in Age'. His descriptions materialise not only a picture of cultural and social life in Brno, but we also learn why Milan Kundera is friends with him, why Arnošt Goldflam or Miloš Štědroň will speak at his grave, or who the true god of Brno is. Family friends he talks about in the book included, among others, Josef Kainar, František Vláčil, Ivan Blatný, and Count Haugwitz.
