Giovanni Boccaccio: Decameron

The Decameron, one of the founding works of the Italian and World Renaissance, is the culminating work of the poet and novelist Giovanni Boccaccio: is a collection of one hundred prose novellas, linked by a unifying narrative framework, about seven young ladies and three young men who meet during the Florentine plague of 1348 and, in order to escape mortal danger, go to the countryside where they tell stories to each other for ten days. Most of the stories are drawn from the ancient and medieval tradition, but they are already filled with a new - Renaissance - spirit. A significant part of the Decameron novels is built on an erotic theme. The apparent absence of morality in the Decameron is thus actually an expression of a new, Renaissance morality - its clash with the ethical norms of the Middle Ages is expressed by the satirical elements in the numerous stories based on the erotic life of the clergy. Translated by Radovan Krátký and prepared by Blanka Stárková. Directed by Michal Pavlík, the cast includes Václav Postránecký, Miroslav Donutil, Svatopluk Benes, Vladimir Brabec, Barbora Hrzánová, Blanka Bohdanová, Michal Pavlata, Nadya Konvalinková, Pavel Soukup, Valérie Zawadská, Jana Stepánková and Miroslav Moravec.
