Several years after the dramatic conclusion of The Beijing Ripper, Li Jen and Margaret Campbell return in a new short story

Li Jen and Margaret Campbell have had a rough couple of years. Now they are both struggling to cope with the huge workload and the day-to-day care of their son Li Jon.
After Campbell is approached by a desperate mother, touching on her own maternal instincts, Li begins to investigate the disappearance of a 17-year-old Beijing girl, Jiang Mei-lin.
But this kindness soon turns into an investigation linked to a dangerous illegal trade and a dark ritual from the distant past.
