Gateway – a gateway to the secrets and riches of the universe – an asteroid serving as a spaceport for a thousand alien ships
No one knows what their creators looked like or where they went. But the ships are still functional, and each is programmed for a faster-than-light flight to a distant place somewhere in unexplored space. All you have to do is get on board. It's impossible to steer them, yet volunteers still sign up to venture into the unknown on these ships. Sometimes the prospectors return as billionaires, other times their remains are scraped from the walls, and some never return at all.
When Bob Broadhead arrived at Gateway, he thought he had a simple task ahead of him – wait for a mission that felt right, fly it, and get rich so he would never have to fly again. It didn't work out that way for him.
