Gamma knife radiosurgery
The publication is intended primarily for physicians, who together with the patient decide on the most appropriate treatment methods for each diagnosis - neurosurgeons, neurologists, oncologists and radiotherapists, but also to general practitioners, internists and ophthalmologists. It is also intended for students studying neurosurgery and neurology, radiotherapy and other disciplines, both in basic and postgraduate studies. Last but not least, it is also intended for patients who are looking for more detailed and comprehensive information on radiosurgery for the treatment of brain tumours and disorders.
Such a well-documented (200 black and white and colour pictures and drawings) and comprehensive publication does not exist in the Czech language yet.
Brain tumours, arteriovenous malformations or various disorders of brain tissue function are still a very serious diagnosis today. The most effective methods include radiosurgery. Thanks to a collection organized by the Charter 77 Foundation, 15 years ago the Czech Republic became one of the users of the most advanced technology for these therapeutic purposes - the Leksell Gamma Knife. The publication presents the most comprehensive information on the methods and results of treatment of various diagnoses using radiosurgery. The publication summarizes the current knowledge and results obtained in the treatment at the Department of Stereotactic and Radiation Neurosurgery of the Na Homolce Hospital and other international institutions with the Leksell Gamma Knife. In addition to basic technical data about the Leksell Gamma Knife, quality assurance and patient safety, individual groups of diagnoses that can be effectively treated by radiosurgery are discussed.
