What it means to be a family
Life hasn't been kind to Lila Kennedy. A failed marriage, two headstrong daughters, a dilapidated house, and an ageing stepfather who seems to have quietly moved in. Her career is hanging by a thread and her love life is... well, complicated. So when Lila's biological father, whom she has barely seen since he ran off to Hollywood thirty-five years ago, suddenly rings her doorbell, it looks like this might be the final straw... But what if the people you thought you could never forgive could teach you something about love, and what it truly means to be a family?
Jojo Moyes
Jojo Moyes (born 1969) studied journalism at the University of London and worked as a journalist for ten years for the British newspaper The Independent. She also spent time in Hong Kong as a correspondent for the Sunday Morning Post. In 2002, she debuted with the novel Sheltering Rain, inspired by the lives of her grandparents, and has been a freelance writer ever since. She is the author of more than a dozen novels, specialising in romantic stories that avoid traditional genre clichés and have a more serious subtext. Her books have sold over 50 million copies worldwide and have been translated into 46 languages. Jojo Moyes is also one of the few authors to have twice won the prestigious Romantic Novel of the Year Award, presented by The Romantic Novelists' Association since 1960. She won in 2004 for Foreign Fruit and in 2011 for The Last Letter from Your Lover. However, the author's greatest reader response came with the phenomenal Me Before You (2012), which was later adapted into a film and followed by two sequels. The writer lives with her husband, journalist Charles Arthur, and their three children on a farm in Essex. She is a great lover of horses and a passionate rider.
