František Nepil: The intestines of the lychee

"We keep it simple. We know where we came from, even if Premysl had not hidden the shoes from the bast, there is not a single one among us whose ancestor or ancestor's ancestor did not come from the countryside. Who would not be either a cottager, a peasant or a householder, or at least a serf, a maiden or a groom. For all of us who are lucky and unlucky enough to live here and to belong here, is the straw peeking out of the shoe? This is how the writer František Nepil begins his story in his book "Strevevije z lýčí". The radio studio recording is longer and more complete than previous excerpts from the author's reading. Listen to Nepil's narration in the author's unmistakable delivery.
