Murder in the Orbital City of Codaε

The year is 2071. Dozens of orbital cities circle the Earth, and the colonisation of Mars is underway. Another launch window is opening, and six colonisation ships will soon depart for Mars. Among the emigrants waiting to board in the orbital city of Codaε is Niklas, a descendant of Czech emigrants. When his friend is murdered, Niklas is forced by circumstance to hunt for the killer. He gets to know the orbital city of Codaε more intimately than he would have liked, uncovering secrets that were meant to stay buried. Again and again, he asks himself two simple questions. The first is: will I make it to Mars in the end, or will I be stuck in this orbital city? And the second: can I even survive under these circumstances?

Vladimír Šlechta

Born in 1960 in Liberec, he has spent most of his life in the south of Bohemia in České Budějovice. He debuted in 1993 in the magazine Ikarie with the short story 'Legendární zbraň' (Legendary Weapon). In 1999, his first two novels were published: 'Projekt Bersekr' (Project Berserker) and 'Ostří ozvěny' (Blade of the Echo). He is one of the best-selling Czech fantasy and sci-fi authors. He is a two-time winner of the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror award in the best published short story category. He is the author of nine books to date, in which he skilfully combines elements of adventure science fiction and fantasy. Three of these belong to a series set in a post-apocalyptic Europe ('Projekt Berserkr', 'Ostří ozvěny', and 'Kyborgovo jméno' [The Cyborg's Name]), while others fall into the 'Krvavé pohraničí' (Bloody Borderlands) fantasy series ('Krvavé pohraničí', 'Šílený les' [Mad Forest], 'Nejlepší den' [The Best Day], 'Likario', 'Orcigard', 'Zahrada sirén' [Garden of Sirens], 'Ploty z kostí' [Fences of Bone], 'Válečná lest' [A Ruse of War], and 'Hořící přízraky' [Burning Phantoms]). He is married and has two sons, Jan and Pavel.
