Euthanasia or palliative care?
The questions of life and death have not become any easier or less important for contemporary man than they were for all generations before us. Not only for our own dying and death, but also for those closest to us, a viable "technical solution" is now available. It's medical, professional, aseptic. It is short, effective, affordable and definitive. This possibility, right or mercy, however, provokes discussions, calm ones - even sharp and emotional ones. The book by prof. MUDr. Marta Munzarová, CSc., head of the Institute of Medical Ethics at the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University in Brno, is not just a book about death and dying, but rather a book about human life and dignity. It is an exceptional contribution to the current debate on euthanasia and the status and importance of palliative and end-of-life care. The author does not shy away from any difficult question, answering with personal bravery, clarity, honesty and truth. The book was reviewed by doc. MUDr. Jozef Glasa, CSc., from Bratislava, is intended not only for physicians and workers of all medical disciplines, but also for the general public.
