A novel inspired by true events by the author of The Women of Podbrd
The novel is inspired by the real life of Eugenie Egert Janečková and the Continental Hotel in Pilsen, where the elite met during the First Republic.
Eugenia, like most women of the time, is facing an arranged marriage. The charming dark-haired girl marries Ledecky, a hotelier, and locks her true feelings in her heart. Together they take care of the running of the hotel, through which history passes. On the eve of the occupation, Marlene Dietrich spent the night here, and later the Gestapo and resistance fighters came to drink coffee here. At the end of the war, a bomb flies through the hotel and Eugenia's husband and father die in the shelter.
The liberation by the American army brings new hope and love into the life of a young hotelier, who faces a fateful decision.
