Edmond Rostand: Cyrano of Bergerac (2015)

After sixty years, Czech Radio has returned one of the most famous plays of all time, Cyrano de Bergerac, to the radio stage. The title role of the proud Gascon stormtrooper, who throws his shirt away in a duel but hides from women under the balcony, was taken over from Karel Höger by the excellent Jiří Langmajer. "Radio has the advantage, and at the same time the work is extremely difficult and beautiful, that everything has to come purely from within the actor. He can't use anything he would have available on stage, i.e. add a gesture, music, cord or throw a shirt. Here, it all has to come from the depths of my soul, in this case my soul and my heart, to get through the microphone to the audience, and I am firmly convinced that we have done our best," said Jiří Langmajer, the main actor, about the staging of the play.
