The authors focus on the development of an overlooked phenomenon of modern independent print production – so-called fanzines (from the English words „ fan“ + „ magazine“ = fan magazine). In many subcultures and communities, fanzines have served as alternative media, helping to create these parallel communities and representing one of the few sources of information on their history.

The monograph presents a view on the phenomenon of fanzines in the Czech and Slovak environment and thus builds on domestic research on samizdat as well as on the works of foreign authors. The book focuses on various dimensions of fanzine production from the 1980s to the present. It analyses the methods of production, distribution or content of selected titles and their role not only in subcultural environments. It is intended primarily for readers, who are interested in fanzines and alternative presses, subcultures, history of journalism, alternative lifestyles, but it's just as much about the recent past.
