Diary of a Country Parson
"I am not an intellectual," Jan Rybář used to say about himself. He speaks about the light and dark sides of life directly and without unnecessary regard for sensitivities. The late Jesuit witnessed the dramatic events of the 20th century. He remembered the horrors of the Second World War, the rise of communist totalitarianism, imprisonment, and the permanent surveillance of the StB. But he also remembered the hopes raised by the Second Vatican Council and the return of freedom in 1989. He never let his evangelical freedom and sense of humour be taken away from him. The book was awarded 1st place in the Good Book 2016 poll.
