Diaries of Václav Tille II.
Václav Tille (1867-1937), a professor of comparative history of literature at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University and a prominent representative of interwar culture, kept personal diaries during his lifetime, which still represent a remarkable and valuable historical source. The two-volume edition makes available diary entries from the last ten years of the author's life (1927-1937). The texts give an insight into the everyday life of this scientist, also originally gloss the colourful events in the environment of the Czech and foreign intellectual elite, in which the fates of politicians intertwine, actors, artists, scientists and diplomats. The diaries reflect the unusual breadth of Tille's interests, among which politics had its place, Theater, Literature, avant-garde art and the new media of the time, radio and film. The personal records of this important personality provide a subjectively biased, yet unique insight into the background of Czech society in the first half of the 20th century. The second volume includes an annotated edition of diaries from 1932-1937.
