Day for Jackal

The Day of the Jackal

A brilliantly written story that became a milestone in the development of the political thriller. Paris, 1963. French President Charles de Gaulle is taking part in the magnificent Liberation Day celebrations, as he does every year. Apart from a few police officers, no one in the crowd of hundreds of thousands suspects that an inconspicuous man has slipped past the special patrols. A professional hitman, nicknamed the Jackal and hired by the terrorist organisation OAS, is waiting in hiding for the right moment to shoot the President. Will the police manage to stop the killer before it's too late? Who really has an interest in the President's death? This thrilling and elaborate story is undoubtedly among the best that Frederick Forsyth has ever written, and has been successfully adapted for film several times.
