The publication is intended for all nurses working in the intensive care setting and those caring for acutely ill patients in other nursing units.

In addition to the introductory chapters describing the care of the patient on admission to the intensive care unit, transfer to another ward or discharge to home care, the author describes the basics and specifics of intensive nursing care of patients according to the individual body systems. It also deals with specialised nursing procedures in invasive and non-invasive monitoring, intravenous drug administration, airway management, parenteral nutrition and other activities. In writing the book, the author draws on her experience at the ARO and her study of Czech and foreign literature.
