City of Bones
Childhood cases leave one with the knowledge that the world is full of lost light
Detective Harry Bosch is called to the discovery of a human bone that turns out to be the shocking case of a brutally abused boy who was murdered and buried in the woods of the Hollywood Hills more than twenty years ago. The notorious Laurel Canyon was then a rural enclave, part bohemian and part snobby, where it was easy to run into cocaine dealers and their customers, pornography traffickers, and extinct rock stars. The cordial investigator gradually uncovers the circumstances of an ancient crime and the tragic story of a boy whom fate did not favour in any way. However, such cases suck one dry and haunt one's dreams, especially when one has not had a happy childhood. Perhaps because of this, he does not resist the feelings that the sympathetic policewoman Julia awakens in him after a chance encounter. Little does he know that he will have to face a whirlwind of events that will seriously threaten his successful career...
The gripping eighth installment in the series of thrillers featuring the unconventional detective Bosch, on which the series of the same name was based. In this Edgar Award-nominated best novel, Harry's investigation leads to a conclusion so shocking and unexpected that the listener gasps involuntarily.
