Chamomile Valley

The gripping story of a woman who was initially dealt a worse hand than others by fate

She was strong, though she did not realize her strength, and brave, though she never thought of bravery. She managed to find ordinary human happiness even in hard times and even harder conditions. Yet she never felt left out or deprived and was able to live her life to the fullest.

The story begins in 1946, when seventeen-year-old Anna is repatriated from Russia to post-war Czechoslovakia. Both parents are dead and the mother's relatives in Bohemia have taken care of the orphan. Anna arrives in a land she knows only from stories, but which in her imagination seems to be the promised land. He doesn't speak the language and only knows his relatives from photographs. Yet she hopes to find a new home with them - the only certainty in the uncertain world that surrounds her.

But when he arrives at the scene, he learns that everything is different. From one day to the next she finds herself in the beautiful but almost deserted landscape of the Central Highlands, with a man she really knows nothing about.
