Bohumil Hrabal: Weddings in the House

The first pages of Hrabal's autobiographical trilogy, Weddings in the House, Vita Nuova and Proluky, saw the light of day in the late 1970s, a time when the writer was, with few exceptions, not allowed to publish officially in his homeland (at the same time, by the way, Hrabal's other masterpieces, The Tender Barbarian and Too Noisy Solitude, were being written). All three books were published abroad for the first time. Nevertheless, these are some of Hrabal's best prose. The whole trilogy contains the sum of the writer's life experiences and gives a clear testimony to his original art. From Hrabal's texts he reads: Zdena Hadrbolcová.
