Bohemka is and will be 3
The club saga, Bohemka je a bude (Bohemka Is and Will Be), is unparalleled in Czech football literature in its scope and depth. The comprehensive first two volumes of the chronicle of the Vršovice club, Bohemians Praha 1905, were written by Miloslav Jenšík, a respected sports historian and proven author of non-fiction, and the recipient of a growing number of prestigious awards.
In the first volume – published in 2019 and awarded the Egon Ervin Kisch International Prize – the author guides readers through the history of the green-and-white club from its founding in 1905 until 1973, when the Kangaroos returned to the top domestic league after a three-year exile in the second division and embarked on the club's most successful era to date.
The glorious days of European cup matches and winning the Czechoslovak league title in the 1982/1983 season are described in Jenšík's second book – published in 2022. It covers the critical years when the traditional club was on the brink of extinction, and its rebirth thanks to the help of loyal fans who would not let their club fall.
The third book, penned by sports journalist Martin Hašek, completes the trilogy at the symbolic moment of the club's one hundred and twentieth birthday, and also during the centenary celebrations of the professional football league's creation. In the long history of Bohemians, this is just a fleeting moment, but one rich in events. During a single year, the Vršovice club went from the brink of relegation from the league to European cups, to which they returned after 36 years.
The new book captures Bohemians at a pivotal moment, preparing for the redevelopment of their beloved Ďolíček stadium. It includes extensive interviews with prominent club figures – legendary captain Josef Jindřišek, patron Dariusz Jakubowicz, and Arnošt Navrátil, the architect of Ďolíček's iconic main stand and the author of the stadium's modern redevelopment. It also features previously unpublished drawings from its architectural study.
The electronic version of this book is sold only in PDF format.
