A renowned historian of Czech football and a proven author of non-fiction in other fields, holder of numerous prestigious awards, first made his mark on the history of one of the most famous Czech football clubs in 2005 with the jubilee publication Zelenobílé století (The Green and White Century). The history of the Prague Kangaroos and their magical Ďolíček stadium, which he himself has witnessed for more than seven decades, captivated him so much that he now returns to it in a much more extensive form.
In the first part of the club chronicle, which you are now holding, the experienced author expertly and captivatingly guides the reader through the period from the club's birth, through years of victories and defeats, triumphs and falls, remarkable and dramatic stories, the journey of the green and white team through the world of football, sometimes lined with laurels and sometimes with thorns, up to the year 1973. It was then that Bohemians returned to the top domestic competition after a three-year break and began an ascent that culminated in winning the championship title in the 1982/83 season and brilliantly representing our football in the UEFA Cup.
However, these great successes are the subject of the second book, which takes the reader all the way to the finish of the 2019/20 league season. This chronicle of 115 years of history includes a rich documentary appendix on the Vršovice team's performance in domestic and international competitions, as well as in the national team.
This two-volume work, in its breadth and depth of scope, is without exaggeration unprecedented in Czech football literature to date. The story of the green and white Kangaroos can be read in one breath, yet its readers will keep coming back to it.
