Audiobook Black Tongues is a story about the search for truth and one's place in history
A story about the search for truth and one's own place in history, set in Taiwan Taiwanese Bao tries to hold his life in his hands. He has a great career, kids with prestigious schools, and even seems unbothered by his dysfunctional relationship with ex-wife Sedrika. In Taiwan, it's all about not losing face - no matter what. But everything changes suddenly when Sedrika falls ill with an incurable disease and son David decides to meet his uncle Tao, with whom Bao has fallen out, allegedly over an inheritance.
From that moment on, the layers of unspoken family wrongs and lies gradually crumble and fundamentally change the lives of everyone around Bao. Nothing is as it seems, and nothing turns out as the novel's characters would like. Bao's character and the story of his family reflect the fate of a hard-tested country and the traumas of his ancestors, which go deep into the past. Through the perspectives of various characters, Black Tongues shows the fragility of our ideas about values such as truth, duty, honour and love, and the immense difficulty of expressing ourselves outwardly in a genuine and sincere way.
