Biography in elderly care
The book provides a basic orientation for working with the life story – biographies of the elderly when providing care as such. The biography is an innovative element for care planning and is an important component for the overall documentation structure, both for care in outreach services and residential services. The insight into the client's significant life stories that they can tell is an enriching value for understanding the older person being cared for by a young team of carers.
As an input model of care, the book presents the psychobiographical model of E. Böhm, who starts from the client's biography and seeks a way into the soul of the elderly by interpreting psychobiography as an emotional mirror for the psychological experience of old age. In Czech practice, if we do not find a biography in the documentation, it is difficult for the staff to understand the psychobiographical level of care. The explanation of the given issue is intended for all those who interfere with the care of the elderly, but also for students and teachers of social and health care, including pedagogy and geragogy.
The aim of the book is to reflect on the quality of care we provide and the ethical principles we follow. The aim is to facilitate and understand the creation of individual care plans based on the life story of the elderly person, thus contributing to the humanization of care and strengthening the dignity of the person at the end of life.
