Architecture of civil engineering structures

The book is aimed at students preparing for their future careers, as well as thoughtful people of working age and everyone else. The publication broadens the general public's view of the technical nature of buildings that each of us encounters on a daily basis. It pays attention to land routes, roads and motorways, waterways, underground structures, to the weirs, to the dams, dams and bridges of all kinds. The buildings in question have been, are and will continue to be landscape elements and an integral part of the urban environment.
While many of the engineering structures are not something we would look at with pleasure every day, others create a genius loci and are part of everyday life in the best sense of the word. The intention of the book is to draw attention to such buildings in the Czech Republic and abroad and to promote the awareness that even the most ordinary technical buildings are part of the environment, can beautify it and evoke feelings of satisfaction in the human heart. In a dialogue with artistic categories, the featured buildings are subjected to constructive criticism, from their overall conception to their detail.
The publication concentrates information on the interesting history of engineering structures, which have co-shaped the environment in all stages of civilisation over the centuries until the present day and are linked in no small measure to the standard of living of individual cultures.
