It is a gloomy autumn in 1961, and homeless detective Ota Fink—a lathe operator by day—agrees to help his friend Maky, who wants to find out why her old piano teacher, Mrs Kocourková, has suddenly stopped giving lessons and will only speak to visitors through a chain on a slightly ajar door. Was a body really found in her flat? And how did it get there?

Major Moldánek from the Prague CID admits to Ota that the security services don't have a clear opinion on the case and that an outside perspective might help solve it. Without hesitation, Ota follows the trail, which leads from the Hostivař cemetery, through a dog training ground, all the way to the streets of Žižkov.
