Antiobesity - development, present and perspectives
Antiobesitics, drugs to treat a serious disease, obesity, have a long history. A number of them have been withdrawn due to serious side effects. The preparations used today are very effective, but the administration must be long-term.
The monograph is the first in the new book series Pharmacotherapy for Clinical Practice, which will be supervised by Professor Svačina, President of the Czech Medical Society JEP.
The book gives a detailed overview of indications, contraindications, side effects, dosage and interactions of antiobesity drugs. The administration of antiobesity drugs in comorbidities is discussed in detail – diabetes, hypertension, heart failure and other diseases. The author also discusses the prospects, as there are at least thirty other molecules in development with complex effects beyond just weight.
The book is of interest to internists, endocrinologists, obesitologists, clinical nutritionists and general practitioners.
