Anna, a Journey from the Sudetenland

A story of love, courage and loss, revealing the fragility of human dreams in a world that is changing forever.

Anna Lesná is coming of age in a world that is changing dramatically. From a girl scarred by the war years in the Sudetenland, she becomes a young woman who, despite her German origins, tries to forge her own future. But a new threat relentlessly creeps into her life and the lives of those close to her – the rise of communism. Compulsory work brigades, pressure to join the Party, whispers of political show trials and death sentences. Every step could be fateful. And yet Anna refuses to back down and give up her dreams; she longs to study at the ceramics school, pass her school-leaving exams and find love. Against the backdrop of a changing society, other stories also unfold – Lída Čechová experiences deep feelings for a technology student, Miroslav, who makes no secret of his opposition to the new regime. But a single act is all it takes for his life to fall into the hands of a power that does not forgive.
