A. Dumas: The Adventures of Count Lyderich

In a story of friendship, love and betrayal, the chivalric virtues of the European Middle Ages come to life in the character of the first Count of Flanders: bravery in battle, vassal loyalty, nobility of mind, service to the lady, Christian faith. Alexandre Dumas the Elder, by his own name Davy de la Pailleterie, is one of the most famous and popular French authors of the 19th century. His world-famous works, such as The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo, have found readers in successive generations. However, Dumas often took themes from foreign literature (Romeo and Juliet, Ivanhoe, Robin Hood, etc. ). His The Adventures of Count Lyderich belongs to this circle of works, in which the author drew on the material known from the ancient German song of the Nibelungs. Dumas's retelling of the old legend was first published in 1842, the Czech translation of the little-known classic text was published by Vyšehrad in 1999. Directed by Dimitrij Dudík, it stars Otakar Brousek.
