A better ending

The protagonist of this partly autobiographical text is a South Slavic emigrant living in Oslo, Norway, where he makes his living as a university professor. When he has to leave his job due to his disorganised personal life, he finds a new job as a postman. The only other activities he engages in are party-going and heavy alcohol and drug consumption. He constantly feels torn between his memories of the Balkans and his current unsatisfactory life in this overly ordered Nordic country, and he manages to cope with the onslaught of his contradictory life only with great humour and insight. Things get even more complicated when he meets an elderly Norwegian woman with her own ties to the Southeastern European region, and then, on his return home, a Muslim woman, a distant relative. The novel by the former Yugoslavian author, who divides his time between his native country and his adopted Norway, has been successfully received by the public and translated into several languages.
