The drive enforces complex password protection - the password must have at least six characters, with varied letter size, numbers, or special characters. After ten unsuccessful attempts at entering the password, the drive locks down and reformats, to prevent against brute force attacks. It is FIPS 140-2 certified. You do not need to install any utility software to use the drive - everything works immediately in Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac OS.
