Kingston DDR3 4GB 1600MHz Registered ECC

The Kingston DDR3 4GB 1600MHz with the ECC Registered technology support is a fast and reliable DDR3 memory module designed to boost performance for multitasking and demanding applications in high-performance systems, servers and multiprocessor computers. Thanks to their unfailing reliability and compatibility, the Kingston memory modules are often recommended by motherboard and computer manufacturers.

The ECC technology performs transparent real time checks of the integrity of data stored in the memory. It can find and fix an error in a single bit of memory and detect errors up to in two bits. Some memory controllers can fix even larger-scale errors when using the ECC. Most server boards require their memory module to have ECC support. Combined with parity control, the RAM achieves maximum control of the transmitted data.

Registered memories are equipped with their own controller that manages access to the individual memory modules, lowering the demands on the board or processor memory controller. Outwardly, the memory behaves as a single module - the register chip -, taking care of writing and reading from the individual memory cells and transfering to the controller only the result of these operations. So the efficiency of memory access and the processing speed increase even when using multiple memory modules at once. Some server boards require their memory to be registered.

The memory has a single independently addressable area (memory rank) with a 72-bit bus width (64 bit of data and 8 bits of ECC code). Most server chipsets have a limited number of memory ranks or a specified memory configuration for individual slots, so it is important that you to pay attention to this figure with regard to future upgrades. Once you have reached the maximum memory rank of your motherboard, you can't add another module even if you still have free memory slots.

Memory modules with "x8" chip organisation are affordable, but do not support advanced server technologies such as multiple-bit error correction, Chipkill, memory scrubbing or Intel Single Device DataCorrection (SDDC), which makes them a good choice for entry-level servers.
