Getting accurate temperature readings is the alpha and omega of extreme benching. Some CPUs have the so-called cold bugs, which means they stop responding at a precisely set temperature, e.g. -110°C. This is why you need to have a very accurate overview of the current temperature, including the fastest response possible. Because even just a couple degrees (at sub-zero temperatures) can mean a world record. Most normal Type K thermocouples (probes) are not suitable for this purpose, since they are slow and inaccurate. These probes, designed and used by Vince "Kingpin" Lucido meet the most stringent requirements.
Unlike other thermocouples, the KPC Extreme is very durable. Probes are using twisted 20AWG gauge wire from Watlow. Insulation consists of a kapton tape and shielding wire. These premium wires have a tolerance of +-0.5°C (0.4%) at a temperature range of -200°C to 1200°C. Thermocouple connectors are premium OMEGA connectors. All probes are tested for extreme clocking with the professional high-precision Keithley 2001 system meter and their accuracy is verified with the widely used thermometers, like Fluke 51 II or 52 II models, popular with overclockers for their excellent response and accuracy.
