Intel is a global brand that needs no special introductions. For many years and decades, it has been among the largest manufacturers of processors and chipsets in the world. Now the company is introducing a brand new, extremely powerful processor designed mainly for servers, but also for classic computer workstations. One of the main goals of the design process was to create a processor that can cope with prolonged operation under maximum load and provide exceptional reliability. The processor is designed for motherboards with the new LGA2011-3 socket.
The processor features 12 physical cores and belongs to the modern Haswell series. It uses a 22nm manufacturing process and tri-gate transistor 3D technology. There are newly added instruction sets that provide higher performance at the same clock speed. Each core is clocked at 2.3 GHz, with Turbo Mode automatically overclocking them to 3.1 GHz when necessary. Just like the previous generation, this processor has a memory controller integrated directly into the chip. It is a four-channel DDR4 memory controller that can operate at frequencies up to 2133 MHz. The CPU cache reaches 30 MB.
This technology overclocks busy cores or shuts down those not in use. Overclocking happens through a change in the multiplier. Each core has its own multiplier, which means that two cores can be turned off and the remaining two then run at a different clock speed each.
It is a great technical solution used by almost every server processor. It provides the option to combine the existing environment with virtual ones. With it, you can easily run multiple operating systems independently on a single machine. This can very effectively solve program compatibility issues in newer operating systems. The processor also includes the latest Intel VT-d virtualisation support, which adds support for I/O devices in a virtualised environment. It also features Enhanced Intel Speedstep technology, which allows you to reduce power consumption when full power is not required.
