Intel has recently introduced to the market its 7th generation processors, this time codenamed Kaby Lake. In principle, the architecture is very similar to the popular predecessor Skylake series. Intel has added various optimisations and tweaks, which has created a reliable processor series that delivers a real increase in performance while maintaining minimal energy consumption.
The Kaby Lake architecture is once again based on the 14nm manufacturing process. Intel has improved the initially demanding production process to absolute perfection, giving this processor series an excellent price-performance ratio. Just like its predecessors, Kaby Lake includes AES-NI instructions, which enable much better hardware support when working with encrypted disks, leading to a substantial reduction in latency. The processors also support common virtualisation features such as VT-d and VT-x, including EPT. The massive bandwidth is taken care of courtesy of the tried and true Hyper-Threading technology, enabling simultaneous processing of 8 threads. The quad-core Intel Core i7-7700 delivers reliable performance at an impressive frequency of 4.5 GHz.
Data access is made considerably faster thanks to an 8 MB L3 cache, which gives the cores enough time to deliver instant response to all applications. This processor’s impressive parameters ensure it can serve as a reliable cornerstone of your computer system.
Since Intel focused on optimising existing technologies, the new Kaby Lake processors are perfectly compatible with currently available motherboards equipped with the 1151 socket. The only thing you need to do is to confirm compatibility with the manufacturer and then perform a relatively simple UEFI update.
