Intel has launched the 8th generation of Intel Core processors, this time with the codename Coffee Lake. It comes with a very similar architecture to the previous, successful Kaby Lake architecture. However, Intel has worked on various optimisations, resulting in an Intel Core i5-8600 processor that delivers great real-world performance whilst using minimal power consumption.
The Coffee Lake architecture is once again based on a 14nm production process. Its demanding manufacturing process is being performed by Intel with an utterly stunning level of perfection, offering the Intel Core i5-8600 processor at a superb price/performance ratio. For the first time, the Intel Core i5 comes with six powerful cores. The frequency has also been increased to reach speeds that exceed 4GHz in the turbo mode.
Access to your data is greatly enhanced by 9MB of fast L3 cache memory that will give cores enough time for an instant response to all applications. The Intel Core i5-8600 processor will surely serve as a reliable rock with your gaming rig. However, its performance is so good that you can even plunge into virtual reality or into demanding video encoding projects with ease.
The Intel Coffee Lake platform contains quite a few changes, so Intel has decided to take a rather unusual step. Although this processor uses the well-known 1151 socket, it will require a new motherboard, specifically, an Intel 3XX chipset.
