Intel has launched the 8th generation of Intel Core processors, this time codenamed Coffee Lake. These processors have a very similar architecture to their highly successful predecessor, the Kaby Lake series. However, Intel has introduced various optimisations, creating the Intel Core i3-8300 processor that delivers a significant performance boost while maintaining minimal energy requirements.
The Coffee Lake architecture is once again based on a 14nm production process. What used to be a very demanding manufacturing process at first, Intel has mastered to a stunning degree of perfection, which means the Intel Core i3-8300 processor can offer a superb price/performance ratio. For the first time ever, the Core i3 series now features four processor cores. The higher number of cores is also accompanied by a higher working clock speed, which is up to 3.7GHz in turbo mode.
Access to data is greatly facilitated by a fast 8MB L3 cache that gives the processor cores enough time for instant response to all applications. The Intel Core i3-8300 processor is guaranteed to serve as a reliable building block for gaming PC systems.
The Intel Coffee Lake platform contains quite a few changes, so Intel has decided to take a rather unusual step. Although this processor uses the well-known socket 1151, it does require a new motherboard. Specifically, a motherboard with an Intel 3XX series chipset.
