High-end memory module of the latest generation DDR4, designed for powerful systems, servers, and multiprocessor computers with ECC Registered technology support. DDR4 memory provides higher data throughput and lower power at the same frequency over the previous generation. ECC technology checks transparently, and in real time, the integrity of data stored in memory. It can find, and fix, an error in one bit and detect the error in two bits. Some memory controllers can also repair larger-scale errors in conjunction with ECC memory. Most server boards require memory with ECC support.
Registered memory is equipped with a custom controller that controls access to individual memory modules to make it easier for the memory controller to work on the board, or processor. The memory behaves externally as the only module - the register chip - which takes care of writing, and reading, from individual memory cells and transfers the controller to the result of these operations. This increases the efficiency of memory access and processing speed, even when multiple memory modules are used at the same time. Some server boards require registered memory.
The memory has two individually addressable areas (memory rank). Most server chipsets have a limited memory rank or a specified slot configuration for individual slots, so you need to track this data for future upgrades. If you have full memory rank on the motherboard, you will not be able to add another module, even if there are free memory Slots.
The "x8" chipset is designed for the most demanding applications, supporting a variety of professional technologies such as multiple-bit error correction, Chipkill, memory scrubbing, or Intel Single Device Data Correction (SDDC), making it ideal for critical applications, and critical servers.
