Polarization filter is an invaluable helper for outdoor sun photography. The filter removes glare, increases the saturation and vividness of the colours, so the clear sky will have the right shades of blue and the haze will be suppressed. The HD filter has a 25% higher throughput than standard polarizing filters and has virtually no effect on colour balance, contrast, or purity of the resulting image, in addition to the polarizing effect .
The filter protects the lens from mechanical damage, repels water and grease. The coating, of course, takes it behind the objective lens, and the cleaning process itself is involved in the degradation of the original properties. That's why there's a special, very hard coating that lasts up to 200% longer than normal coatings.
