Soleplate material
If you want to reduce hair damage, avoid straighteners with metal surfaces. Gentle care can be provided by these three:
- Ceramic flat straighteners - the most common; rapid warming and even temperature; available for prices starting at 250 CZK
- Tourmaline/ceramic-tourmaline irons - temperature spreads evenly; prevent dehydration; can also be used at lower temperatures; available for prices starting at 600 CZK
- Titanium/ceramic-titanium irons - fast warm-up and even temperature; light; do not damage hair much; highly effective - more suitable for thick and curly hair; available for prices starting at 800 CZK
Some straighteners are enriched with ionization. Ions are released during straightening, preventing static electricity and frizz. The hair becomes finer and smoother.
Maximum temperature
You can reduce the risk of damaging your hair if you choose an iron with temperature control. Alternatively, choose an iron with the set max. temperature that matches your hair type.
- Fine and damaged hair: 120 to 150 °C.
- Normal hair: 150-170 °C.
- Thick and frizzy hair: 170-200 °C.
Soleplate width
The universal width for hair straighteners is 2.5 cm. However, if you have very long hair or short hair, it is better to adjust the width to the length of your hair. Straightening will be more efficient and faster.
- Short hair - narrow soleplates (up to 2.5 cm)
- Long hair - wide soleplates (more than 2.5 cm)
Straightener shape
Straighteners with rounded edges can be used not only for smoothing and straightening, but also to create fine curls.
