GLONASS stands for Global Navigation Satellite System, which was developed by the Russian Ministry of Defense. It was designed for unrestricted public access to information about location and exact time from any place on Earth. The principle is similar to American GPS navigation. Communication is passive, as the signal flows in one direction only, from the satellite to the user’s receiver.
