The Garmin Edge 820 cyclocomputer is a top-class device designed for true professionals. It's not just a simple navigation device, but also a great speed and distance meter and it can provide you with many more kinds of data that can help you to get your training several levels up. It is equipped with Bluetooth, which enables you to easily connect your bike computer to your iOS, Android or Windows mobile phone. With this feature, you will be able to get SMS, missed calls and other notifications directly on the computer display. And that's not all this small device can do. It can display the weather forecast on the screen or let you easily connect to the training server. It can also use the data connection of your phone.
Despite the small size of the device, the manufacturer managed to embed a 2.3" colour touchscreen to the front panel and you can use it without difficulty both when the screen is wet and when you are wearing gloves. The device is waterproof with an IPX7 protection. When using the GPS, the integrated battery provides up to 15 hours of battery life on one charge. In addition to the GPS/GLONASS, the Garmin Edge 820 also features a barometric altimeter for a precise altitude, climb and descent measuring. Garmin also provides cycling maps of Europe on a 16GB storage.
The cyclocomputer has the ANT+ wireless technology for connecting to a heart rate sensor, speed or cadence meter. The ANT+ system also allows for connection to a wattmeter like Garmin Vector2, cycling radar (Varia Radar) or a Varia Vision head-up display. Every cyclist will therefore have plenty of options on how to use this device. The Garmin Edge 820 can of course also be used on its own, without a mobile phone connection.
With this device you will have comprehensive information about your training. It measures all bike performance parameters, such as VO2Max or FTP (functional threshold power). If you use a wattmeter, you can obtain data on the balance between the left and right leg or separate statistics for riding when sitting or standing.
Garmin Edge 820 is compatible with the Strava segments - it can store them in the internal memory and then highlight them on the track, show the comparison with the lead times and write the results into the Strava leaderboard after the end of the ride. If you are riding in a group or a peloton, you will certainly appreciate the new GroupTrack feature that displays the location and statistics of a whole group of cyclists on one map, including breaks. You will also have data on who has moved away from, the group or dropped out.
