PlayStation 5 also scores plenty of points for its immersive Tempest 3D AudioTech soundscapes that help your surroundings come alive in supported games. A key benefit is that you don't need expensive headphones or multiple speakers to enjoy it fully—a decent smart TV is enough.
A major new feature of the DualSense controller is the haptic feedback that lets you feel the results of your in-game actions. For example, in racing games, you will feel true-to-life resistance when you drive over a bump or through a muddy puddle. Sony's designers have also changed the angle of the adaptive triggers and grip areas to give you a controller that sends the old PS4 one to the back of the cupboard.
More than 20 new PlayStation 5 games have already been announced, including highly anticipated titles Horizon Zero Dawn 2:Forbidden West, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Gran Turismo 7 and Resident Evil Village.
Don't worry, there's not going to be a repeat of the PlayStation 4 launch fiasco. The new PlayStation 5 Digital Edition supports around 100 of the best games from the older generation console, with the number set to increase over time. Of course, you can also watch movies from Blu-ray discs and play in virtual reality with PlayStation VR.
