Non-hybrid

Non-hybrid varieties, often referred to as open-pollinated (OP) varieties, are plants that can naturally retain and pass on their genetic characteristics from generation to generation. These varieties are not the result of a purposeful cross between two genetically different parental lines, as is the case with F1 hybrid varieties, but are pollinated naturally, which may include wind, insects or other natural methods. Non-hybrid varieties are also valued for their genetic diversity, which can produce a wide range of unique flavours, shapes and colours.
